Amazon recently made their entry into the Australian market back in December of 2017, with a warehouse in Melbourne. Now the online retail giant is expanding its operations in Australia, with a new distribution centre to handle packing services in Sydney, in the city’s west side, with a schedule already set.
The international giant signed the lease for a 43,000m2 in the southwestern suburb of Moorebank, at 7-21 Centenary Avenue. The warehouse will be located on a property owned by the Goodman Group, an Aussie industry property developer, with the warehouse set to be operational sometime within the second half of 2018.
In support of the packing services in Sydney and the local economy, Amazon will be recruiting staff for operations at this new site, which include jobs for handling operations and support, as well as getting technical specialists and other key personnel.
This follows Amazon’s entry into the Aussie market following it construction of a warehouse in Melbourne’s Dandenong South. Amazon Australia’s Operations Director Robert Bruce says that Sydney represents a key step of the company’s growth strategy in Australia, which they have taken after a consistent increase in customer demand.
He says that this new investment will be good for both Amazon’s customers and the local economy by creating new jobs as well as letting small- and medium-scale Aussie businesses who use the website to sell their products access the Fulfilment by Amazon program, which provides an opportunity to reach millions of Aussies across the country.
Amazon says that, in order to meet the increase demand from Aussies across the country, they are expanding their Australian Fulfilment Centre Network, as well as improving product selection whilst improving third party marketplace seller support in Fulfilment by Amazon. Sellers that take part with the FBA can now send their products to either of their two facilities; one in Sydney, one in Melbourne, so that they can be packed and shipped, with Amazon handling returns and customer service.
The deal for the lease of theMoorebank warehouse property was successful thanks to the oversight and support by the CBRE Group’s Industrial and Logistics Department.
