How Much Does America Pay For The President’s Weekend Getaway?

When President Trump and his entourage jetted for the 3rd straight weekend to his working getaway at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, the costs incurred exceeded that of past presidents. Based on the assessments of presidential travel and security costs, the expenses for a working getaway could reach hundreds of millions of dollars during the course of his 4-year term.

A month from Trump’s inauguration, the unusually elaborate lifestyle of the first family is already straining the Secret Service including security officials. There will be Secret Service in tow for Trump’s sons visit to the United Arab Emirates for the grand opening of Trump-brand golf resort. Meanwhile, the New York police have to guard the Trump Tower in Manhattan where the first lady and her son Barron reside.

Adding to costs and complications of securing the president is his inclination to conduct business affairs while surrounded by a crowd. One example is his decision to host the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with a working dinner while other Mar-a-Lago club members were dining nearby.

The three weekend trips to Mar-a-Lago are likely to have cost the National Treasury about $10 million. Palm Beach County officials are also planning to ask the White House to reimburse tens of thousands of dollars per day that Trump is in town because of the additional security required and the traffic issues on the cramped island.

New York City is spending $500,000 a day for the security of the Trump Tower, an amount that could easily reach $183 million in a year. The Post has also reported that Secret Service and US Embassy staff paid nearly $100,000 for hotel room bills during Eric Trump’s trip to Uruguay. Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch will continue to track the Trumps’ family vacation costs whether or not it involves business.

If you are looking for a weekend getaway, one of the best places is family resort in Phuket that offers a wide range of entertainment choices for the whole family. While mom relaxes in the spa and dad spends time at the fitness centre, the kids can enjoy the gaming room or participate in activities at the kid’s club.
