For individuals who have sustained injuries from sports or work and those who are currently recuperating from surgery, you are advised to read CynergyPT Blog to understand how physical therapy can bring you back to a normal state of health. Through right physical therapy techniques, there is a very high potential to regain flexibility, coordination and balance.
Most patients who undertake physical therapy are athletes because they frequently suffer from injuries during a competition. Derrick Marks suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the 2014 finale at Houston on December 28 but he still hopes to play in the Jacksonville Jaguars season opener on September 14 of this year.
Derrick is not wavering from this goal of being able to play again even if he has not participated in the offseason conditioning program, OTAs, minicamp or training camp. On the other hand, the head coach of Marks is not so optimistic although he is not ruling out the possibility for Marks to play because he does not want him to be discouraged. According to Gus Bradley, there are still barriers that need to be overcome to get him to that point but in his mind, Marks is ready to play and the same goes for his doctor and trainer.
It will be a challenge for Marks, a really uphill battle because he is the on the physically unable list to perform since training camp begun last July 31. If Marks does not get himself medically cleared to practice or play once regular season starts then the Jaguars will have to keep him on the PUP list and he would have to sit it out during the first six weeks of the regular season.
According to Stephania Bell, a physical therapist and ESPN analyst, the idea is to match rehabilitation techniques with the patient and there are basic healing elements that cannot be rushed. The later stage of lineman recovery after ACL surgery is different from a skill player’s recovery because they have to recapture the high level abilities to cut, pivot and accelerate and decelerate quickly. Linemen are more concerned with strength and power and the ability to play in tight spaces with lots of bodies flying around.
