Thailand’s Tourism Excels In Q4

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports in Thailand has reported that its tourism revenue continued to indicate a good performance from October to December of last year.

Tourism excels in Thailand

Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the Tourism and Sports Minister, mentioned that in Q4 2016, their tourism industry gained THB 628,486.67 million, which is a 4.41% increase compared to Q4 2015.

A tourism-related revenue is the approximate spend per visitor, a number that originates from exit surveys in airports and data from the credit card surveys.

Of the gross tourism revenue, THB 400,436.63 resulted from international market, with a 2.03% increase, and THB 228,050.04 million resulted from domestic market, an increase of 8.89% compared to Q4 2015.

Last year’s total tourism-related revenue was projected to get to THB 2.51 trillion than an earlier prediction of THB 2.4 trillion. From this, THB 1.64 trillion will come from foreign visitors, while THB 869 billion coming from domestic travel.

The minister also indicated that until December 27, 2016, they recorded tourist arrivals of 32.13 million, an increase of 8.96%. This generated a revenue of THB 1.61 trillion, a 12.68% growth.

Predictions for 2017

The ministry predicts that the tourism-related revenue this year is going to get to THB 2.71 trillion. From this, THB 1.78 trillion is going to derive from foreign visitors, while THB 930 from domestic travel.

This year, the Kingdom is going to focus its attention of tourism segments like ASEAN connect products, rail, marine, weddings and romance, wellness, medical and sports tourism, according to her.

She claimed that the European visitors are going to increase, as well as the arrivals from the neighbouring countries of Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia. According to her, there is a need to increase the capacity at the airports of U-Tapao in Pattaya, Phuket and Don Mueang, and to push marine tourism, while also providing linkage tourism program policies.

With all these positive performance results from last year and great predictions for this year, surely the tourism-related businesses, regardless if that is a hotel near Nana BTS or a budget resort in Phuket, are going to benefit from this excellent tourism performance.
